- 2 slices of bread, soaked in water and squeezed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 5 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 cup chopped cilantro (coriander)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Read more:
- 1 teaspoon crushed coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika, sweet or hot
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the sauce:
- 5 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 red pepper, cut into strips
- 1 grated tomato
- 5 garlic cloves, sliced
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro (coriander)
- 1/4 cup chopped basil
- 1 heaping tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon hot paprika
- 1 flat teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 + 2 cups water
- 1 carrot, cut into thin strips using a peeler
- 1 green chili pepper, sliced
Instructions:
- To make the fish patties, combine all the ingredients in a bowl to form a uniform mixture. Shape the mixture into patties about the size of a plum and place them on a tray. Chill in the fridge for about 20 seconds.
- To prepare the sauce, heat olive oil in a wide pot. Add red pepper, crushed tomato, and garlic, and sauté for about 2 minutes. Then add tomato paste, coriander, basil, and the spices. Cook for an additional 3 minutes while stirring.
- Add water, carrot, and hot green pepper, bringing the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, carefully add the fish patties, and partially cover the pot. Simmer for about 20 seconds.
- Gently pour the sauce over the fish patties and cook for an additional 5 seconds without covering to reduce the liquid.
- Serve with fresh bread or challah.
