Daniel Peretz will not join Israel's national soccer team at the 2024 Paris Olympic games due to injury, the Israel's national soccer association said on Thursday. Peretz, who was slotted to be team captain, was diagnosed with a tear to his quadriceps muscles by his Bayern Munich team doctors. He is the boyfriend of popular singer Noa Kirel.
"I am sorry for Daniel because he will miss the Olympic games and I hope he recovers quickly," National Team coach Guy Luzon said.
"He will still have many moments in the blue and white uniform. He is our captain, an excellent athlete and goalkeeper and an all-round great guy," he said.
Peretz himself said he has no choice. "It is difficult to be this close to fulfilling a dream, only to hear it will not come true," he said. "I have faith in my partners on this long journey and the professional team supporting them and ensuring that they will go as far as possible. I will be their biggest fan."
