"Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity no water … People have learned nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING."
Spyglass, the production company behind the upcoming Scream sequel, told Variety that it maintains a steadfast policy of "zero tolerance for antisemitism."
"We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” a Spyglass spokesperson told Variety.
Meanwhile, film director Christopher Landon wrote on X, "Here's my statement: It's all frustrating. Stop yelling. This wasn't my decision," and has since blocked comments.
Barrera, 33, took on the lead role for the previous two installments of the popular horror franchise stepping in after Neve Campbell's departure. She was poised to also lead in the seventh film, following the previous film's impressive $137 million worldwide box office haul. However, recent developments suggest that Spyglass has terminated her contract, necessitating a rewrite of the script.
