The official trailer for the documentary "The Bibi Files" has been released, which presents rare footage from police investigations of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara, and his son Yair. The film, which has aroused global interest, will premiere on Thursday in New York and will be distributed to theaters across the United States immediately after. The movie will feature on Jolt on December 11. Watch the trailer:
"The Bibi Files," directed by Alexis Bloom and produced by Oscar winner Alex Gibney, is based on footage leaked from Netanyahu's investigations, in which he was questioned about the corruption cases. The film combines the investigation materials with exclusive interviews of key figures in the Israeli political and legal system.
The largest documentary festival in the United States, DOC NYC, has already assured the movie's quality by including it in the list of outstanding films of the year. The first screening on Thursday is already sold out, and in response, the festival organizers added another screening on Sunday.
Beyond the screenings in New York, the creators are aiming for the Oscars and will also present the movie in special screenings for members of the Academy in Los Angeles and other cities throughout the United States. Some of the screenings will be accompanied by discussions with the participation of Bloom and Gibney, while the event in Santa Monica will be moderated by Ben Rhodes, the former national security adviser in the Obama administration.
While selected viewers will be able to watch the film on the big screen already in the coming month, fans of the documentary genre around the world - with the exception of Israel - will be able to enjoy the scenes in question starting on December 11, with the launch of the Jolt streaming platform. The film will be the flagship production of the new platform, which promises to bring strong and daring documentary works.
According to the producer Gibney, who is also involved in the management of the platform, the prominent American streaming companies that work with him on a regular basis (including HBO, for which he is currently creating a film about Elon Musk), avoided purchasing the rights to "The Bibi Files" due to the legal and PR complexity it brings.
The filmmakers have signed distribution agreements for the documentary worldwide: France, UK, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Turkey. The audience in Israel will not be able to legally watch the film in light of local legal restrictions that prevent its screening and broadcast in Israel.
