Eden Golan, who represented Israel in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, released on Wednesday her first single since her appearance at the event in Malmö, Sweden, where she finished fifth place.
Golan faced protests, jeers and abuse from some audiences and fellow competitors due to anti-Israel sentiments amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Israel’s original entry October Rai was rejected by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for its perceived political overtones. A revised version entitled Hurricane was ultimately performed at the competition.
Golan’s new single Older addresses the struggles faced by children and youth who are forced to endure hardships far beyond their years. “And just like that, I’m older than I should be,” she sings in the poignant ballad.
“I am very excited to release Older today,” Golan said in a statement. “I’ve worked on the song for a long time and believe that it captures my own feelings and personal story. We all have moments in life when we are forced to grow up too soon, but we get through it and come out stronger.”
