Israeli radio stations have announced that they will stop playing former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters' songs in the near future after he vehemently denied Hamas' sexual violence on October 7 in an interview with Piers Morgan.
Following the airing of the shocking interview, the chairwoman of the Israeli women's organization Na'amat called on radio stations in the country to stop playing songs by the singer-songwriter. Some stations approved the request, while others have anonymously confirmed they will stop playing his music.
Noam Cohen Gefen, who owns an Israeli radio station, said, "Since the beginning of the war, and with Waters' previous statements, we have almost completely stopped playing Pink Floyd's songs, and they were put on air only as part of dedications and requests. We were shocked by the interview and will not play his songs in the foreseeable future."
Other Israeli radio stations have also come forward and answered the request, saying they wouldn't play Rogers' songs.
The two leading national radio stations, Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation's Kan and the Army Radio refrained from making a definitive statement, though anonymous sources confirmed Rogers' songs wouldn't be played in the near future.
"Waters' comments are outrageous and unacceptable, and we reject them completely," Kan's radio station said in a statement. "As part of their work, Kan's music editors take considerations relevant to public opinion and the identity of the performers into account."
Army Radio, however, said the station doesn't boycott "any work based on the identity of its creators. The station's music editors have the freedom to schedule songs according to their professional judgment and know how to show sensitivity and attention to public opinion."
