Earlier this month, Gal Gadot claimed she met with the co-chiefs of DC Films, James Gunn and Peter Safran, and the trio agreed to jointly develop Wonder Woman 3. However, according to a Variety report published Thursday evening, this is not the case.

According to a source who spoke with the magazine, the third installment of Wonder Woman is not currently in development at DC Studios. Moreover, neither Gunn nor Safran has plans at this time to launch the project as part of their evolving new cinematic universe, aside from the prequel Paradise Lost – a series that will delve into the world of the Amazons.
In a previous interview Gadot gave to Comicbook, she mentioned that Wonder Woman 3 was still on the table. "I love portraying Wonder Woman," she asserted then. "It's so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we're going to develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
In fact, in a recent interview she gave to Flaunt magazine, she was even more adamant, stating among other things that she was assured the third installment about Diana Prince would be developed.
“I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell,” she said.
Meanwhile, Variety refuted the Israeli actress's claims, suggesting that she was never assured anything regarding Wonder Woman 3 and that no discussions took place about her reprising the role within the DC cinematic universe.
To date, Gadot has portrayed the Amazonian from Themyscira six times - starting with Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by two solo films (Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984) directed by Patty Jenkins. In between, Gadot also starred in Justice League, and most recently made cameo appearances in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.
However, the future of her character remains uncertain. Earlier this year, Gunn and Safran unveiled the first phase of their ambitious plan, headlined by Superman: Legacy (starring David Corenswet), set to hit theaters in 2025. Before the duo took on their senior roles, Gadot had already begun working with Jenkins on Wonder Woman 3. Yet, one of their initial decisions was to inform the director of the end of her role and simultaneously put the production on hold.
