In an unusual incident at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem, a crocodile bit a caretaker on Sunday. The zoo worker's condition is serious and he was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. A security guard who was there shot the crocodile and saved the caretaker's life according to police. The attacking crocodile and another crocodile were slightly injured in the shooting.

Magen David Adom reported that medics provided medical treatment to the employee. Later they evacuated him to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital with bites all over his body. The police launched an investigation into the incident, claiming the security guard saved the caretaker's life.
Dr. Miklosh Bala, director of the trauma unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem, said that upon the caretaker's arrival at the trauma unit, the medical team diagnosed extensive injuries on his body and he was immediately taken to the operating room with a team of surgeons.
The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo stated that, during a routine activity in the crocodile enclosure, one of the handlers was attacked. The zoo also said that "the incident took place in a closed space where there was no risk to visitors. We are investigating the incident and wishing for a speedy recovery to the injured caretaker."
The zoo also stated that veterinarians are treating the attacking crocodile and another crocodile, both injured by the security guard's shot.
