Israel on Tuesday said 10,003 people have died in the country from coronavirus-related complications since the start of the pandemic, clinching yet another grim COVID milestone.
The Health Ministry said at least eight coronavirus patients died on Monday alone, while since the beginning of the month, 1,033 people have died in Israel from COVID-related complications.
The ministry added 753 patients are currently hospitalized in severe condition, of whom 224 are ventilated.
At least 12,930 people tested positive for COVID on Monday, and after 95,425 tests had been conducted, the infection rate now stands at 13.55%, a significant drop from the same figure reported in recent days.
For comparison, exactly one week ago 23,663 people tested positive for coronavirus in a single day, 45% more than the figure reported on Monday.
The virus's reproduction number, R, also saw a decline after remaining stagnant for a number of days. It now stands at 0.66 - indicating a slowdown of the pathogen's spread.
Due to the decrease in morbidity, the number of red local authorities - with high infection rates - continues to decline. As of Tuesday morning, there are eight green local authorities in Israel, 11 yellow and also 31 orange.
In Israel, there are about 112,000 active virus patients, most of them suffering from mild symptoms.
The majority of them, 6,567, live in Tel Aviv, 6,219 in Jerusalem, 4,107 in Haifa, 3,932 in Be'er Sheva, 3,870 in Petah Tikva, 2,963 in Rishon LeZion, 2,885 in Netanya, 2,769 in Ashkelon, 2,466 in Ashdod, 2,259 in Holon, 2,242 in Ramat Gan, 1,888 in Rehovot, 1,762 in Kfar Saba, 1,573 in Bat Yam, 1,508 in Modi'in Maccabim Reut, 1,485 in Hadera, 1,276 in Raanana, 1,197 in Hod Hasharon and 1,085 in Rosh HaAyin.
