Israeli actress Gal Gadot honored in prestigious "Elle" celebration

In event to honor women in Hollywood, Gadot speaks of the injustices and the discrimination women face in her industry; says strong women disparaged as divas but she, she says only encounters hardworking women who juggle work and family

Israeli actress Gal Gadot was honored on Tuesday, alongside some of Hollywood’s best known actresses, in an event held by the prestigious French beauty magazine "Elle", in a celebration of the women of the film industry.

    • Gadot, who broke out as a Hollywood A-lister in recent years, thanks largely to her role in DC's "Wonder Woman", was also given the honor of gracing November’s cover of the French monthly.

    In her speech, Gadot recited a few lines from John Lennon's “Imagine”, as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the infamous and much criticized video in which she is seen singing the song alongside other celebreties .
    After the laughs abated, Gadot continuedת speaking about the “Hollywood Diva” stereotype, which she said so many women in the industry today have to deal with.
    “We've all heard stories about the Hollywood diva, all of us, and I must say that I've been doing this long enough and I've never met her,” she said.

    “I feel like she's this mythical creature—because of all the women I've worked with, from cast to crew to production office, have been the most hardworking and grounded professionals who are focused on making the best entertainment possible.”
    “On top of that, many women—for many of them—the set is just the first shift of the day. A lot of us are also mothers and caretakers,” Gadot said.
    “We push ourselves hard because things must get done. We're not driven; we are the drivers. I so admire how devoted women are to both their careers and their home lives. We are so amazing we hardly have any time for ourselves."

    Other actresses who received accolades alongside Gadot during the event were Rita Moreno, who will celebrate her 90th birthday this coming December, Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry and Judy Comer.
