American Airlines announced on Wednesday it will discontinue its route between Tel Aviv and Miami, Florida.
"As part of the continuous evaluation of our network, American Airlines has made the difficult decision to discontinue its Miami (MIA) – Tel Aviv (TLV) service effective March 24, 2023," a spokesperson for the company stated, without providing any further explanation.
"We will continue to operate daily service to Tel Aviv from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK). We’re proactively reaching out to customers affected by these changes to offer alternate travel arrangements."
The flights will be pulled from the schedule this weekend, according to aviation news networks, offering rebooking options for those who have already purchased flight tickets.
The 6,603-mile flight route was launched in June 2021 and initially operated on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, before recently switching to daily services.
"The initial reception was very strong, but it has actually grown that much more. That is the principal driver of us going to daily service," the vice president of American's Miami branch then said in an interview with ABC10 News regarding the upgrade.
Only Boeing 787-8 airliners were used for the transatlantic flight route. With just 20 business class seats and 234 seats, American faced stiff competition from Israeli flag carrier El Al which uses roomier Boeing 787-9 planes.
