Dubai’s Emirates airline has banned pagers and two-way radios on its flights following last month's attack in Lebanon, reportedly carried out by Israel, which involved thousands of pager and walkie-talkie devices used by Hezbollah terrorists detonating almost simultaneously.
“All Passengers traveling on flights to, from or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage,” the airline said in a statement on Friday.
Emirates added that any such items found in luggage would be confiscated by Dubai Police.
Although the carrier does not operate flights to Israel, it extended its suspension of flights to Lebanon until at least October 15, citing security concerns.
The airline’s decision comes after a similar ban imposed by Qatar Airways on flights departing from Beirut, following the attack.
International airlines have reduced services to Lebanon, fearing escalating tensions in the region.
According to Reuters, a senior Hezbollah official revealed that the pager explosions incapacitated 1,500 Hezbollah terrorists, with many sustaining severe injuries, including blindness and loss of limbs.
