Exactly two months ago, the Foreign Ministry had already cautioned Israelis residing in the Maldives to exercise vigilance.
"The hostile sentiment against Israel in the Maldives is intensifying, and therefore we advise Israeli citizens to avoid traveling to the Maldives at this time," the ministry previously warned. "For those Israeli citizens already in the country, situational awareness, heightened caution and staying informed through communication channels are strongly encouraged."
Furthermore, at the beginning of the month, the National Security Council raised the travel alert level to 2 for the Maldives and numerous countries in Western Europe, as well as Brazil, Argentina and Australia. The recommendation then was to take enhanced precautionary measures.
"We are not telling Israelis not to travel, but there needs to be heightened awareness beyond the usual," a senior official in the security establishment emphasized at the time.
