Protecting against anti-Israel harassment: 'Soldiers, avoid posting your location'

After anti-Israel activists tracked IDF veteran's location in Berlin through social media, blogger Ella Kenan advises on how to avoid such risks; 'Lock your profiles, delay posting photos and never share real-time locations'

This week, anti-Israel activists tracked the location of an Israeli veteran vacationing in Berlin, posting about it in real-time. Ella Kenan, a blogger and advocate for Israel since October 7, emphasized the importance of digital literacy to avoid such situations.
"Soldiers, whether active or in reserves, should avoid posting photos in uniform on social media," Kenan advised. She highlighted the risks associated with sharing images from military service, including those from the ongoing war in Gaza.

"Every week, I receive reports from soldiers whose photos and videos are posted online, often with fabricated accusations. These posts can reach millions, exposing their names and images without any control over who sees them."
Kenan recommended that those who still wish to share photos should lock their social media profiles and review their friend and follower lists to ensure they include only trusted people.
"Most importantly, don't post your location in real-time, especially when abroad, and avoid sharing your plans and schedule in stories," she said. "In general, I suggest posting content a few days late to protect yourself. Enjoy, but stay safe."
