Israeli nature lovers are abuzz recently over the discovery of a secret water well. Its exact point on the map is known only from word of mouth and even this reporter has vowed not to divulge anything more than a general geographic location, in the Ela Valley in central Israel.
The water hole is 15 meters deep underground and contains fresh, clear water at a depth of some four meters. Visitors attached a ladder to its entrance but it is used at people's discretion because no safety measures were in place.
"Outside the well you do not see much just a fig tree and the opening but when you approach, its depth is revealed and you can see a ladder along the tree's roots leading you down," Haim Habshush, a tour guide says.
"The water is fresh and at its most beautiful, when the sun is reflected in it. The well offers a unique and enchanting experience to visitors."
Habshush and his friends insist on secrecy because they fear that the authorities would close off the well to the public, as they had done before when such gems were found.
