TripAdvisor, a popular travel platform, recently released a transparency report disclosing the number of fake reviews submitted to their site. Out of the 30.2 million reviews posted in 2022, approximately 1.3 million (4.4%) were identified as fraudulent.
The report is published biennially, and its authors highlighted that 72% of the fake reviews were removed before being published on the website, up from 67% in the previous report.
When it comes to comments on Tripadvisor, there's an automated screening process in place. While the vast majority pass through without a human glance, a portion get axed on the spot. The rest, those that raise some suspicion, are referred to the company's staff for closer inspection.
As the globe's leading review site with over 11 million registered businesses, Tripadvisor takes pride in upholding a foundation of reliability. "Our systems are constantly improving to provide trustworthy content for our community and fair competition for businesses," stated Becky Foley, Tripadvisor's VP of Trust and Safety.
The report showcased a positive trend, with more fraudulent content being identified prior to publication.
