El Al's low cost subsidiary Sun D'OR is resuming fights from Ben Gurion Airport after a seven month hiatus after the airport's Terminal 1 reopened lowering costs for international and domestic carriers.
Sun D'Or announced a $14 reduction in ticket prices for all flights departing from Terminal 1, courtesy of the lower airport taxes. Passengers who have already booked their tickets for these flights will automatically receive a $14 refund.
Starting June 2, Terminal 1 will also serve international flights. Sun D'Or will be offering routes to several destinations such as Paphos and Larnaca in Cyprus; Kefalonia, Rhodes, Sitia (Crete), and Thessaloniki in Greece; Tbilisi and Batumi in Georgia; and Chisinau in Moldova.
Meanwhile, Sun D'Or flights to Porto in Portugal, Warsaw and Krakow in Poland, and Tivat in Montenegro will continue to operate out of Terminal 3.
"The refund will be automatically processed to the payment method. Customers who booked their flights through travel agents will receive the refund through the agents. Lower airport tax allows Sun D'Or to reduce the ticket prices departing from Terminal 1 by $14 per ticket."
Other airlines expected to operate from Terminal 1 include: El Al, Arkia, Israir, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Transavia France, and Georgian Airways.
The Israel Airports Authority has projected that about 1.4 million passengers will transit through Ben Gurion Airport on international flights in June. In the coming months, Terminal 1 is expected to handle approximately 1,200 flights, with around 200,000 passengers passing through it each month. During the peak travel months of July and August, Terminal 1 is anticipated to serve between 6,500 and 7,000 passengers per day.
