EMC to open R&D center in Beersheba

One of world's leading companies in information infrastructure solutions to launch new facility in April as extension of EMC Center of Excellence in Israel

EMC Corporation, one of the world's leading companies in information infrastructure solutions, says it will strengthen its investment and presence in Israel by opening a new Research & Development Center in Beersheba in April 2011.

The new facility will be located in Beersheba High-Tech Park, directly adjacent to Ben-Gurion University (BGU).

As part of EMC’s Center of Excellence (COE) in Israel, this new facility reinforces the company’s continued investment to achieve excellence in technology innovation and increase its staffing to support customer and partner growth in Israel.

EMC also recently announced the unification of RSA’s presence in Israel and EMC’s multiple Israeli R&D facilities into one state-of-the-art COE to be located in a new 9000-square metered facility in Herzliya.

The COE will open by the end of 2011 under the leadership of Dr. Orna Berry, Vice President and General Manager. EMC’s COE in Israel is part of its global network of COEs in India, China, Egypt, Russia, Ireland, and North Carolina (USA).

“Our new facility in Beersheba reinforces our commitment to expanding EMC’s operations in Israel while continuing to deliver innovative cloud and information infrastructure technologies to our customers,” said Dr. Orna Berry, vice president and general manager of EMC Israel COE.

“Over the next five years, we expect to continue to grow our business tremendously in Israel and will benefit significantly by being able to leverage the academic network and the talented engineers in the region.

EMC's new facility in the Negev will also benefit from the Israeli Government's incentives for multinational companies which open up facilities in peripheral areas of Israel. These incentives are designed to encourage investment and boost technological, economic and academic growth and cooperation throughout Israel.

Additionally, the new facility will be located near Ben-Gurion University and SCE, the College of Engineering, which will enable the company to work with the country’s leading young technologists.

“The Investment Center and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor consider it strategically important to help companies willing to invest and open R&D centers in the peripheral areas of Israel,” said Hezi Zaieg, Investment Center manager, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor.

“We hope the Government's official agreement regarding EMC's new facility in Beersheba will encourage other companies to follow EMC's example and open advanced R&D facilities which will contribute significantly to the Israeli periphery, by helping generate value added business opportunities and attract high-level professional competences."
